Welcome + The Goodreads Tag

gracetips.co

Welcome to Read, Eat, Retreat. I’m Kate, a 26-year-old editor, reader, foodie, and now newbie book blogger! I’ve decided to create a little space on the internet where I can gab about books, get inspired in the kitchen with fictional food pairings and recipes, and (hopefully) entertain a few of you in the process.

As an introduction to me and my reading life, I found this Goodreads blog tag through Blogs of a Bookaholic and thought it would be fun to do. I’m a long-time Goodreads user and it’s one of my favourite ways to keep track of my reading, connect with authors and fellow bookworms, and of course add to my ever-growing ‘to read’ shelf. Let’s get to it!

What was the last book you marked as read?
Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery. Somehow, I never discovered the Anne books as a child, but I couldn’t bear to watch the new TV series without reading at least the first book. These are delightful, easy reads that have appealed and endured since their original publication in 1908. I got all 14 books on my Kindle here for just 49p. I have also started the new series, which is surprisingly dark so far. Opinion reserved for now!

What are you currently reading?
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. I just joined the Diverse Books Club and this is my pick for September. I’m also listening to Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run on audiobook (narrated by Bruce himself!) and reading 12 Years a Slave on Serial. The other titles on this shelf are sadly going to remain neglected for the time being.

What was the last book you marked as ‘to read’?
Anne Bogel’s Reading People. I pre-ordered this one back in June because a) I love Anne and everything she does and b) I’m very interested in personality frameworks and using them for self-improvement, but the volume of information online is overwhelming and sometimes inaccurate. So far I have only dipped into Myers-Briggs, so I’m excited to see where this title takes me. I’m an INFJ, by the way.

Do you use the star rating system?
Absolutely! I really, really wish Goodreads had half-star options though.

Are you doing the 2017 Reading Challenge?
I do the Goodreads Reading Challenge every year. Last year I barely managed 50 books. This year I upped my goal to 55 and should comfortably top 60!

Do you have a wishlist?
*sigh* I don’t own most of the books on my TBR, so that doubles as my wishlist.

Who are your favourite authors?
No, not this question! I have so many. Five random authors plucked from my mind this very instant are David Mitchell (no, not that David Mitchell), Leigh Bardugo, Amor Towles, Anthony Doerr, and Agatha Christie.

Have you joined any groups?
Yes, a few. The only one I’m currently paying attention to is the Diverse Books Club. It’s a great new initiative and the community is so lovely.

How many Goodreads shelves do you have?
82. Is that weird?

I tag…
Lily of I Don’t Stand Still. She has great taste in books, and hasn’t posted for a while 😉

You can befriend me on Goodreads here. I’d also love you to come and say hi @readeatretreat on Twitter and Instagram, and on my new Facebook page here.
